Coconut Oil Series - Detoxification with Coconut Oil

When it comes to detoxification, there are 2 commonly held opinions. One group believes that it is necessary for good health, and it improves your energy levels, moods and prevents diseases.

The second group believes that the human body is more than capable of detoxifying itself and does not need any assistance. We just need to eat clean, and the body will do the rest.

So, who is right?

Both groups are. Yes… detoxification will help and promote better health. The human body is also more than capable of detoxifying itself if you eat clean.

However, with the food industry in a mess now and the prevalence of pesticides, GMOs, metals, etc. in our food, it is inevitable that you will get a certain percentage of harmful substances in your body.

While your liver may be working hard to filter out these toxins and remove them, it could do with some help from you… and yes, coconut oil comes to the rescue.

What is oil pulling?

Oil pulling is a holistic treatment method that helps to detox your body. The truth of the matter is that oil pulling is not based on any medical or scientific proof.

However, do not be too quick to assume it does not work. You must try it for a while to experience the wonders of oil pulling. Many herbal and holistic treatments that were deemed useless before are making a comeback because studies are showing that these natural remedies really do work.

Oil pulling has been done for centuries and is an Ayurvedic method of treatment. Over the passage of time, as people became more modern, this method was slowly forgotten. However, this method of detoxification is becoming popular again and is just as effective as it was in the past.

Thousands of people who have adopted it as a daily practice have reported feeling better. There may be skeptics out there who feel like this is a placebo effect and it is all pointless. That should not discourage your from trying it out. Like they say, do not knock it till you have tried it.

If it works for you and you feel healthier, more energetic and notice that your ailments are slowly vanishing, then make it a part of your daily routine. What truly matters is its impact on you.

Oil pulling, despite its strange name, is a quite simple method.

It should always be done first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. This method works best when your body is in a fasted state.

Some sources may suggest doing oil pulling for 10 to 20 minutes. This is a tad bit too long. 2 sessions of 4 minutes each should suffice and be beneficial.

The 2 oil pulling techniques that are most popular are kavala and gandusa, respectively.

In the kavala method, you will have to hold the coconut oil in your mouth for a couple of minutes, then swirl it around for a while and finally spit it out. This should take about 3 to 4 minutes and is usually repeated around 2 to 4 times.

The gandusa method is a little easier. You just hold the oil in your mouth for 3 to 5 minutes and then spit it out. No swirling is required.

Ideally, you should try swirling it so that the oil gets in between your teeth and gums.

Initially, this may be difficult, and you may only manage to swirl it around for a while before your mouth gets tired. That is fine. You can build up your stamina slowly.

Another problem that many people encounter is that the “coconutty” taste is too strong for their liking. Rest assured that with time, you will acquire the taste and be able to endure easily.

What matters is that you do it daily.

Once you are done swirling the oil, you can spit it out and brush your teeth. Ideally, you should use a natural toothpaste.

Remember this - NEVER swallow the oil after swirling. The oil will be used to extract the toxins in your body. If you gulp it down, you will just be putting the toxins back in and defeating the purpose.

You may probably be wondering how swirling some oil even helps with anything. The concept is that there is a vein that runs under your tongue. When you swirl the coconut oil in your mouth, the oil extracts toxins from the body through this vein.

Science has repeatedly proven that oral bacteria and plaque can enter the bloodstream through the mouth. This in turn will result in a host of serious health problems.

Likewise, the coconut oil can also be absorbed into the body during the swirling. So, not only are you extracting toxins, but you are also helping the body get some essential fatty acids?

You may notice that your teeth seem cleaner, and your mouth feels fresher. The antibacterial properties in the coconut oil will kill the bacteria in your mouth that causes plaque buildup, bad breath, etc. Coconut oil is far more effective than any mouthwash, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.

During the swirling process, the oil will be able to reach the inaccessible crevices of your teeth and gums that the toothbrush cannot reach. Unlike normal mouthwash which uses alcohol as an active ingredient, coconut oil is all natural.
